Does my baby have an ear infection?

My 8 month old son is very unsettled at the moment and keeps rubbing his left ear as if it might be hurting him. He is also teething as well though, so it could just be that he is in pain with his teeth. Has anybody's baby had ear ache or an ear infection before? If so what were they given for it. Thanks!
