Why cant i watch or upload videos from my phone?

whe i connect my phone into the computer and go into videos it shows it as only being compatable with VLC player (the cone sign) it wont let me play the videos or upload them. I can only watch them on windows live photo gallery. Hekp me please! I have a Samsung monte btw
