Problems with ipod shuffle!!!!!?

I have an iPod shuffle(1st generation) and I uploaded cd's to iTunes,and synced the iPod, all the music uploaded but when I go 2 listen I can't hear anything on the iPod,and the volume is up,there is a red light on the iPod when I connect it to my computer then like a second later it turns green and then off,is my battery dead?if so,how do I charge it?(I just got this iPod so idk how 2 use it :-\)
