Why would you want to upload your mind?

To my understanding, when mind uploading becomes possible it will involve making a "copy" of your mind/consciousness and uploading it to a computer. Why would anyone want to upload if they can't "transfer" their consciousness? Sure, your upload will behave just like you and it will remember everything you do, but it won't be you. No one would benefit at all from mind uploading if our consciousness remains with our brain and dies with it. Any Transhumanists here? Am I missing something?
