Regarding my ankle surgery.?

I got an ankle surgery done since I broke it while playing football. So now I've got one metal plate and 5 screws inside.. My concern is, now in August I go back to my Masters in Chicago and as everyone knows Chicago is horrible in winter. So, as far as I believe the metal plate and screws are gonna be a true pain in the winter? is it so? and if yes can I do something to ease the pain or avoid it or any extra precautions I should be taking.. Because Chicago gets too cold and the screws are gonna hurt me big time I suppose. I need your views people, I really do. Thanks.
